RIVERVIEW — A resident whose wallet was reported stolen Nov. 8 from his unlocked pickup also had to contend with the thief attempting to fraudulently use several of his credit cards soon afterward.
The victim said the person first tried unsuccessfully to charge $50 at a nearby gas station, then 20 minutes later the thief successfully charged $36 at another area gas station. An hour later, an online purchase of $593 with Target was attempted and declined.
Since the man’s Social Security card was stolen along with his wallet, he was provided with an identity theft packet.
Police officers also attempted to obtain surveillance camera footage that may have captured images of the wallet theft.
