ALLEN PARK — A drunken driver was arrested at noon Oct. 30 for operating while impaired after she was observed at a gas station near Ecorse and Allen roads trying to inflate two shredded tires, which were likely damaged by the driver hitting a curb.

The woman, who smelled strongly of alcohol and who was having trouble maintaining her balance, claimed she hit a speed bump on Cleveland Street, which does not have any traffic-slowing ridges.

She said she hadn’t had any alcohol since the day before, and said she was driving to Livonia to pick up her husband from work.

The woman failed standardized field sobriety tests, and following a search, a pint bottle of tequila was found in the car. Her vehicle was impounded and towed, and she was taken into custody.
