MELVINDALE — A lawnmower stolen from a 36-year-old Melvindale man was spotted the afternoon of July 16 by the victim in the possession of a man who was walking around seeking lawnmowing jobs.

The suspect, an older white male wearing green pants, a black shirt and a blue and red hat, allegedly told the victim that he bought the mower for $50 from a third party. The mower, valued at $400, is a Honda brand with a gray frame and a red engine cover. It also has modifications the original owner made.

The responding police officers were unable to locate the man with the stolen mower. They encouraged the victim to send them a neighbor’s surveillance camera footage of the theft, and they told the man not to approach the alleged thief if he encountered him in the future.
