RIVERVIEW — A 30-year-old man who was arrested the night of July 21 for drunken driving on Fort Street near Williamsburg Street was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol when it was discovered that his visa had expired more than a year ago.
A traffic stop was conducted when he was discovered driving south on Fort Street at 11:05 p.m. without his headlights on. He had an expired Texas driver’s license and was unable to provide paperwork for the vehicle, a silver Toyota Highlander.
The man’s eyes were glassy, and he failed multiple standardized field sobriety tests. He refused to take a preliminary breath test. A half pint of liquor was found in the pocket of the driver’s seat with a quarter of the liquor missing.
The vehicle was impounded and towed, and he was taken into custody.
At the police station, the man agreed to take a preliminary breath test, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.13, more than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
