ALLEN PARK —The steering wheel was stolen from a rental car about 4 a.m. June 28 while the victim was staying at TownePlace Suites, 16850 Southfield Road.
A window was broken on the car, a silver 2022 Chevy Malibu LT, to gain access to the interior. Security personnel said the thief escaped as a passenger in a red Dodge Challenger. The thief was described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The getaway vehicle had tinted windows, so the driver could not be seen. The vehicle was driven north on the Southfield Freeway.
The victim was a Mexican citizen visiting the area to work for the Ford Motor Co.
Hotel personnel promised to retrieve and send the surveillance footage of the incident to police officers.
