HEIGHTS — A 31-year-old woman who thought she had been hired for a new job reported Nov. 10 that she lost $4,500 of her own money when the checks she was sent to order equipment bounced after she had already purchased money orders and mailed them to the addresses provided by her new supposed employer.

The victim provided copies of the money orders to police officers. She was advised to flag her credit accounts and watch for suspicious activity related to her Social Security number.
