RIVERVIEW — A 26-year-old Allen Park man was arrested for drunken driving at 2:52 a.m. Oct. 21 when a police officer initiated a traffic stop after the man was measured driving 60 mph in a 35-mph zone on Sibley Road near Fort Street.
The driver was weaving and riding the double yellow line, so a traffic stop was initiated. The man smelled of intoxicants, said he was “trying to get to Riverview” and named a street located in Southgate. Then the man said he was “just taking a drive” before admitting that he was “just trying to not get arrested for DUI right now.”
The man’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot, and his speech was slurred. He admitted to drinking beer, and pointed to a case on the floorboard.
He passed the verbal standardized field sobriety tests, but failed the physical tests.
A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.129, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan. He was then arrested for operating while intoxicated.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for a blood draw, then returned to the Riverview police station, where he was booked and held. His vehicle was impounded and towed.
