DEARBORN — A teen crashed a red 2021 Ford Mustang convertible into a wooden utility pole about 1 a.m. Sept. 30 in the 15200 block of Prospect Street.

The driver, a teen male, said he was excited about his high school’s Homecoming celebration, and admitted to speeding after a Dodge Charger sped by him, revving its engine.

The Mustang driver then lost control of the sports car, crashing into the utility pole, causing extensive front-end damage and bringing down a live utility wire onto the roof of a nearby house.

The house was not damaged by the sparking wire, and the resident was able to show the responding police officers surveillance camera footage of the crash.

The car was impounded and towed, and the young man was charged with reckless driving and told to contact 19th District Court within two weeks for an appearance date.
