MELVINDALE — The rear driver’s side window of a black 2020 Kia Sportage was shattered, and the steering wheel was found disassembled the afternoon of Aug. 8 while it was parked at the Gale Gardens Apartment complex.
A nearby resident said she heard a car alarm go off between noon and 1 p.m., but said she did not investigate. Another neighbor said that at 1:30 p.m., they remember seeing the broken window.
The ignition assembly was not damaged, and the vehicle owner said that there was nothing inside the vehicle worth damaging.
A nearby surveillance camera may have captured the vandalism, but no one was home at the time of the initial contact to check the footage.
