Suspect arrested in Aug. 4 bank robbery

Telegraph Road Comerica branch hit with second robbery in 2 weeks

HEIGHTS – A Romulus man was arrested for an Aug. 4 robbery at Comerica Bank, 4400 S. Telegraph.

The robbery marked the second time the branch had been robbed in just over 2 weeks.

The arrest was made at the suspect’s Romulus home several hours following the robbery, through a cooperative effort between the Dearborn Heights and the Livonia police departments, as well as special agents from the Detroit Field Office of the FBI.

Dearborn Heights dispatchers received a 911 call at 2:34 p.m. Aug. 4 regarding a robbery at the bank. The suspect reportedly entered the bank, announced a robbery and demanded cash. He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapon was implied or displayed during the robbery.

Dearborn Heights investigators partnered with Comerica corporate security, Livonia police investigators and FBI special agents to identify the suspect.

The investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant in Romulus, and the arrest of the 54-year-old suspect later that night with the assistance of the Romulus Police Department. Evidence linking the suspect to the robbery was recovered.

The case was submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutors Office for a review of potential charges.

“This case demonstrates the value of partnerships within the law enforcement community, and our collective determination to protect our communities” Dearborn Heights Police Chief Jerrod Hart said. “We are grateful for the cooperation we received from our colleagues at the Detroit Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Comerica security, and surrounding law enforcement agencies.”
