Supplemental generators to be placed in 4 Heights locations during this week’s hot weather spell

Generators to serve in ‘stand-by’ capacity for main power trunkline under repair

HEIGHTS – In anticipation of this week’s hot weather, DTE Energy will install several large diesel generators in several locations throughout the city as a “backup” for a major power trunkline that is currently under repair.

“The issue today is that this trunkline is not back in service and the anticipated temperature this week is expected to reach the mid to upper 90s by Wednesday,” According to a DTE Energy alert. “Even with interruptible services and load shedding, this may present a challenge to our distribution company. To prevent electrical outage (specifically in high demand summer months), our engineering staff is working with DTE to place a number of large diesel generators on standby in key areas throughout the city starting this weekend.”

The generators are being place in the following locations:

• Fenton and Hass streets (near Star Academy)

• 23600 W. Warren Ave. (near the Sokol Cultural Center)

• 6609 North Telegraph (2 generators – near the Video Exclusive store)

• Amboy Street, south of Ford Road (this location will require an emergency transformer only)

DTE stresses that this equipment, although installed in these locations, will only be used if needed as a contingency.

“Our goal is to avoid hot weather outages and the resulting hardship to the citizens of the city,” the advisory read.
