Speeding teen ‘having a bad day’

DEARBORN — A teen boy who was driving 100 mph on Greenfield Road, 80 mph on Tireman Avenue and 60 mph on residential side streets at 1:15 a.m. June 29 told a police officer that he was “having a bad day” and was out driving fast “to feel better.”

The police officer saw the teen run a red light and multiple stop signs, and nearly hit several parked cars.

When a traffic stop was initiated near Greenfield Road and Warren Avenue, the police officer could smell the odor of burnt brake pads and saw smoke coming from the front brake area, which is indicative of high-speed braking.

He was cited for reckless driving, and driven home to his parents’ residence, while his gray 2002 Toyota Camry was impounded and towed.
