RIVERVIEW — A 29-year-old Detroit man was taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol at 3:44 a.m. March 27 after a police officer saw him speeding southbound on Fort Street near Williamsburg Drive.
When a traffic stop was initiated, the man said he was headed to his girlfriend’s house in Wyandotte. However, when the police officer told him he was driving away from Wyandotte, he disagreed, and became argumentative.
The man, who smelled of intoxicants, admitted to having several mixed drinks with vodka earlier.
He had a drink in his vehicle’s cupholder, and was asked to step out of his vehicle to perform standard field sobriety tests, which he failed.
A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.10, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
His vehicle was impounded and towed, and he was taken to the Riverview police station, where he was booked and held. He refused to take another preliminary breath test, so a search warrant was obtained from a judge for a blood draw at Southshore Hospital.
