RIVERVIEW — A 36-year-old New Boston man was arrested at 2:49 a.m. March 21 on King Road for his third drunken driving offense and for driving on a suspended license.
The police officer saw him drifting out of his lane of travel, as well as speeding.
After initiating a traffic stop, the man, who admitted that his license had been revoked, was found to have a valid arrest warrant out of Gibraltar.
He smelled strongly of intoxicants, and admitted that he had “more than a reasonable amount” to drink. He said he had consumed eight beers since 6 p.m.
When he exited the vehicle, a cold, open 12-ounce can of beer was found in the driver’s front door pocket.
The man failed multiple standard field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.147, nearly twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
As a repeat offender, his license plate was destroyed, and a paper plate issued. His vehicle was impounded and towed, and he was taken to the police station, where he was booked and held.
