MELVINDALE — A man was found slumped over the wheel of his car the night of Feb. 1, near Outer Drive and Allen Road, with his foot on the brake while the car was still in drive.
An emergency medical services worker had stopped to check on the man shortly before police officers arrived, and she helped them wake the man up and shift the car into park.
The man, who was medically checked out by first responders, failed field sobriety tests, and admitted that he did not have a driver’s license. He refused to submit to a preliminary breath test.
The vehicle he was driving, which he said belonged to his wife, was impounded and towed, and the license plate confiscated and destroyed.
A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, which was performed at Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn, after which he was housed at the Dearborn police station. It was determined that it was the man’s third operating while impaired offense.
