DEARBORN — A 22-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man from Detroit used the self-checkout lane at Walmart, 5851 Mercury Drive, the evening of Jan. 23 in an unsuccessful attempt to steal $168 worth of merchandise.

The couple took their cart to the self-checkout lane, scanned and bagged some items, then attempted to hide other, unscanned items inside the bags. They then left the checkout lane, and were stopped at the door by a loss prevention employee.

Both were cited for larceny and were advised to contact 19th District Court in Dearborn within two weeks for an appearance date.

Loss prevention personnel provided the police detective bureau with surveillance camera footage of the couple’s attempted fraud.
