SOUTHGATE — Eight packs of cigarettes and four or five vape devices were stolen at 11:25 p.m. Jan. 8 from the 7-Eleven, 14515 Northline Road.
A store employee said a man wearing a puffy vest over a hoodie entered the store and asked the clerked to refill the coffee machine. When she went to the coffee machine, the man went behind the counter, and stuffed $158 worth of cigarettes and vape devices into a bag he pulled out of his pocket.
The store clerk yelled at the man and brandished a box cutter, but he didn’t speak to her or engage with her, but merely fled the location without paying for the merchandise. She said she saw him enter a white sport utility vehicle.
The store surveillance cameras captured footage of the theft, which the store owner offered to forward to the police detective bureau.
