HEIGHTS — The Dearborn Heights District 7 Board of Eduction unanimously approved the contract for new Supt. Tyrone Weeks, 45, during its Dec. 1 meeting.
President Carrie Harleton said the start date for Weeks is scheduled for Dec. 6. He will spend two weeks shadowing current Interim Supt. Mary Ann Cyr to ensure a smooth transition.
The contract language also said that Weeks assumes all responsibilities of superintendent as of Jan. 1, 2022. Cyr’s last day as superintendent is set for Dec. 20 due to the holiday break since her contract ends Dec. 31.
Weeks and Cyr will be seated at the board table during the board’s last meeting of 2021 on Dec. 15. At the meeting, the board will discuss Cyr’s exit interview which is scheduled to take place Dec. 9.
Following a search process, Weeks was unanimously chosen as the next D7 superintendent during a Nov. 10 special meeting.
Board members took turns saying who their pick for superintendent was and also went through why they voted for their choice.
After the selection was made, Harleton called Weeks to give him the news that same night. Contract negotiations were completed between Harleton and Weeks.
Before applying, Weeks’ most current position was director of state and federal programs school improvements and Title IX coordinator at Farmington Public Schools since August 2019. He has not previously served as a superintendent for a school district.
According to his resume, Weeks holds a doctorate in educational studies, Master of Education in educational leadership and Bachelor of Science in Education — all from Eastern Michigan University.
Michigan Leadership Institute and Metro Bureau assisted in the district’s search process.
The need for a new superintendent came after former Supt. Jennifer Mast resigned, so Cyr was selected to serve as interim superintendent for the district during the search.
