MELVINDALE — The rectory at St. Mary Magdalen Church was broken into the morning of Sept. 27, through an unlocked window, and surveillance footage shows a man entering the church office and the priest’s living quarters.

The intruder — an unknown black male — is seen on surveillance footage stealing the priest’s cell phone and charger from his room, after which he is seen leaving the area on foot, walking toward Outer Drive.

Later in the day, an employee at a local pizzeria answered a call to the cell phone, and said a man entered the business and sold him the phone and charger. He said he purchased the phone with the intention of returning it to the original owner.

The employee said he had surveillance footage of the man entering the pizzeria, which he would make available to police officers.
