DEARBORN — The driver of a black 2021 Dodge Charger was cited for reckless driving Aug. 4, and his car impounded, after he drove 80 to 100 mph through a residential neighborhood with a 25 mph speed limit, while driving on a suspended license.
Police officers, who saw the man driving south on Maple Street from Michigan Avenue at a high rate of speed, followed the vehicle, and caught up with it at a gas station at Schaefer Road and Prospect Street, where they initiated a traffic stop.
When the police officers activated their vehicle’s emergency lights, the front passenger door of the Charger, which was slightly ajar, was slammed shut. All of the Charger windows were tinted, so the police officers could not see what was occurring inside the vehicle.
They ordered the driver out, and a man exited the driver’s seat, and was arrested for failing to produce a driver’s license and for reckless driving. However, he quickly changed his story, and said the man in the back seat of the car was actually the driver, and said he begged him to switch seats because his driver’s license was suspended.
The actual driver then exited the car and admitted to his transgression, but claimed he “was only driving 60 mph” in the residential zone.
The Charger was impounded and towed, and the driver was told to contact Dearborn’s 19th District Court for an appearance date.
