Beaumont Health will host prescription medication take-back days at six of its facilities April 23 and 24.

Unused or expired prescribed medications may be dropped off April 23 at Beaumonth hospitals in Taylor, Trenton, Wayne and Grosse Pointe; medications will be accepted April 24 at the Center for Exceptional Families in Dearborn, and the Sterling Heights Medical Park across from Beaumont Hospital, Troy. Drop off hours, at all locations, are from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The take-back events include over-the-counter medications and other drugs. No questions asked. Organizers prefer pills be in a plastic baggie. The four participating hospital sites will only accept pills. The Center for Exceptional Families and the Sterling Heights Medical Park site will also accept medical sharps.

Every day, more people die from opioid-related overdoses than from car accidents or gun violence. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 72,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2017 with opioids accounting for nearly 68 percent of these deaths. To turn the tide on the nation’s opioid epidemic, community members need a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused medications.
