TRENTON — Typically enthusiastic, Parks and Recreation Director Joann Gonyea may be understating the city’s annual Easter event.
“A lot of people come out,” Gonyea said of the Great Marshmallow Drop, set to begin at 9 a.m. Friday in Elizabeth Park. The Good Friday tradition — this year marks the 30th event — sends hundreds of children in each age group onto the field to gather the 20,000 marshmallows that fall from a helicopter. The marshmallows are then traded for an Easter-themed prize.
The Drop is co-sponsored by Wayne County Parks and involves a host of volunteers from local clubs, Gonyea said.
“It’s a great community event,”Gonyea said. “Hopefully the weather will cooperate.”
Seasonal activities for the family continue on Saturday with an Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 10 a.m. at Westfield Activities Center, 2700 Westfield, sponsored by the Trenton Civic Commission. Along with the hunt, the morning includes photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny, prizes for the children and more.
