Simone Calvas (left) of the Lincoln Park Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, reviews presentation materials with interim police Chief Brian Hawk and Lincoln Park Mayor Patricia Diaz Krause at the coalition’s Safety Town event last week. Representatives from several outreach, health, welfare and safety organizations were on hand at the VFW hall Wednesday to answer public questions and boost volunteerism. Calvas said the coalition tries to bring together local groups in search of common ground opportunities including neighborhood crime watch programs and monitoring stores that attempt to sell synthetic drugs. The challenge is greater given the city’s economic struggles, Calvas said, but all the more reason for resident participation. “There’s safety in numbers,” Calvas said. “RIght now there aren’t the right numbers.” For more information on the Coalition call 313-733-7704.
