Warehouse raided overnight
More than $5,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from a warehouse not long after training sessions were held there.

Police were called to a warehouse used by Jackson Dawson Communications, 127000 Reeck Road, shortly after 9:30 a.m. Monday, two days after the theft was discovered. The manager told police that a training session attended by an unknown number of employees was held March 16, and the warehouse was secured at 6 p.m.

Saturday morning, the manager discovered a broken window and the theft of several thousand dollars worth of car-lock cable sets, and a 32-inch flat screen TV. It was believed that the thief was familiar with the building, as they avoided the motion sensors which would have activated the alarm.

Police observed broken glass on the outside of the building, but were unable to collect further evidence as the broken window was boarded and any damage inside was cleared.

Smash-and-grab thief lifts wallet

The man told police that bedrooms were ransacked, but that the cash was all that was taken. It was possible, he said, that the thief was someone known, as the dog would not likely have been willingly locked in the bathroom by a stranger.

Taylor police took note of the scene, and are investigating.

Trenton
Would be thief held on warrants
An alert patrol officer may have prevented the theft of or damage to a large crane shovel at a construction site on West Jefferson.

After turning around, the officer lost sight of the suspect. Near the construction equipment, he found a cordless drill stamped with initials, a broken drill bit and gouge marks on a metal locking pin connected to the shovel.

At the station, the officer removed the drill’s battery, and saw a name written on the casing. The name matched an address near where the shovel stood, and a Law Enforcement Information Network search revealed outstanding warrants and a suspended license.

The suspect was arrested at his home, and charges are pending related to the warrants.

The power cord and a copper pipe had been cut.

Man arrested after brawl
A 31-year-old Riverview man was arrested after a fight in front of a house in the 2800 block of Third Tuesday.

According to the report, about 3 p.m. that day, officers responded to the area after the fight broke out between a 32-year-old resident of the block, a 31-year-old Flat Rock man, and the Riverview man, a former brother-in-law of the resident.

The resident said the two men drove by his house and started a fight about the man’s former wife, when the Riverview man reportedly punched the resident in the face. He had redness around his right eye and declined medical treatment.

The Riverview man allegedly yelled and threatened the resident during the police interview and was arrested for disorderly conduct.

The fight happened as nearby Garfield Elementary School was letting students out for the day and many walked by the fight.
