Visiting boy drowns in Detroit River

TRENTON – An 11-year-old Redford Township boy visiting the city with his family drowned Wednesday afternoon after reportedly falling into the Detroit River near the 2400 block of Riverside Drive, police said.

Officers responded to a call at 12:57 p.m. July 26, and conducted a search with the aid of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Downriver Dive Team, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Marine Division and the U.S. Border Patrol.

The dive team found the boy’s body at 1:55 p.m., and resuscitation was attempted on scene before he was transported to Trenton Beaumont Hospital, who pronounced his death.
