MELVINDALE – Karen Lowe, who formerly served as the city treasurer, died March 4.

Lowe served as treasurer from 2011 to 2015, and friends write that she was very giving to the community.

“Melvindale has lost a very committed, beautiful, strong woman whom had a true passion for our community,” wrote Lowe’s friend and resident Sandy Ortiz. “I will miss my conversations with her and her encouragement to be strong. Our community will definitely feel a void.”

Ortiz asked people keep Lowe’s family in their prayers.
Resident Jill Bonnici wrote on Facebook that Lowe was her neighbor and friend for seven years.

“She is going to be very missed by many,” Bonnici wrote. “I just can’t even believe it. My daughter and I will miss her greatly.”

Resident Elizabeth Escareno, whose daughter reportedly ran away March 4 and is still missing, reached out to Lowe’s family, saying they were in her prayers.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Voran Funeral Home in Allen Park, with visitation on Tuesday.
