DEARBORN — A local pharmacist is planning a drive-through Tim Hortons in east downtown Dearborn a block east of Schaefer.

Trudell Pharamacy owner Tom Fakih is in the process of purchasing three buildings on Michigan Avenue — Tammy’s Diner, Wonderland Music and Z Creations, — to build the restaurant.

According to the city, site plans for the business and possible multiple family dwelling have been submitted. A special land use approval will have to be acquired from the city’s planning commission.

“Special land use approval comes into play when there is a public or private site plan with unique characteristics,” City Planner Jeffery Polkowski said. “One of the reasons is because there are plans for a drive-through at the location.”

The Planning Commission likes to look at the site plan details when there is a grey area with the zoning regulations, Polkowski said.

The Planning Commission is tentatively scheduled to analyze the site plans and make suggestions as early as its 7 p.m. March 13 meeting at the Dearborn Administrative Center, 16901 Michigan Ave. A source said it may be held until the April 10 Plan Commission meeting.

Approval of the special land use will also be discussed during the meeting, which is open to the public.
