DEARBORN — Dearborn and Melvindale police and fire rescue personnel worked to rescue two dogs trapped in the Rouge River near the intersection of Dix Avenue and Dearborn Road Jan. 19.

The call came before 10 a.m. from a passerby at the Dix Avenue Bridge when he noticed the dogs on a piece of wood.

Reports claim that the two dogs were attempting to access dead fish when the piece of wood became stuck causing it to sink.

Melvindale firefighters responded to the scene and were able to reach and rescue the dogs with a boat.

Both were taken to a local veterinarian to be treated for any possible injuries or health issues due to the cold weather.
