HEIGHTS — The Wixom man involved in a Jan. 2 crash with a Dearborn Heights patrol vehicle in Allen Park died Jan. 8.

Timothy Turner, 59, died from his injuries and complications as a result of the collision, Wayne County Medical Examiner Spokesman Lloyd Jackson said.

Two Dearborn Heights police officers also were hospitalized after the crash with minor injuries, but were released after being treated.

The crash occurred when a Dearborn Heights patrol Ford Explorer was traveling east on Van Born Road, attempting to catch up to another vehicle.

About 9 p.m., officers continued to follow the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop and turned onto Pelham Road when they struck a Lexus ES 350 traveling west on Van Born.

Turner was making a left turn from Van Born onto southbound Pelham in the Lexus at the time of the collision.

Emergency responders extricated both police officers from their vehicle and took them to a local hospital. Turner also had to be extricated from the Lexus and was taken to a local hospital where he initially was in critical condition.

The Allen Park Police Department completed its investigation and turned it over to detectives from the Michigan State Police Special Investigation Division.
