Molina HOPE kickoff first annual Michigan coat drive

With the cold weather approaching, Molina Healthcare has teamed up with local partners to collect coats for families in the metropolitan Detroit area.

Of the 30 designated dropoff sites, there are two located in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights.

Midwest Medical Center, 4700 Schaefer Road in Dearborn, and Dearborn West Apartments, 27327 Cranford Lane in Dearborn Heights, will accept coat donations until Dec. 2.

During the six-week coat drive, Molina HOPE aims to collect 4,000 new and gently used adult, child or infant coats.

“Molina Healthcare of Michigan is excited to introduce Molina HOPE’s first annual coat drive and help provide a warm winter coat for countless Michiganders who may have otherwise gone without,” Molina Healthcare of Michigan President Christine Surdock said. “It is truly inspiring to see so many companies coming together to make a positive impact in our local community.”

Also, Molina employees in the company’s Troy and Detroit offices have committed to donating 1,000 coats for students at Neinas Elementary School and Lincoln-King Academy in Detroit, and homeless individuals at Advantage Health Center in Detroit.

Families interested in obtaining a coat can attend a free public event at Second Ebenezer Church, 14601 Dequindre Road in Detroit, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10.

Coats will be distributed for free to pre-registered individuals and the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.

The event also will include refreshments, resources and services provided by the various coat drive partners which include Meijer, Credit Union One and Tyler Technologies.

Free health screenings including eye exams and blood pressure checks will be provided by the Molina-owned Midwest Medical Center Dearborn.
Molina HOPE is the company’s corporate charitable giving program, founded to empower low-income individuals and families, and to support community partners whose goals align with Molina’s mission.
