DEARBORN — Henry Ford College wrestlers capture a championship and two silver medals at the Ben McMullen Open in Muskegon Nov. 5.

Scoring high at the open for the Hawks were Diallo Matsimela with a title, and runners-up Chris Brown and Trey Gower. David Knapp and Aaron Heinonen finished fourth for HFC.

“I’m very proud of my boys,” HFC wrestling coach Grant MacKenzie said. “They wrestled with plenty of drive and plenty of heart.”
HFC was one of five National Collegiate Wrestling Association Great Lakes Conference teams to compete. The others were Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Mott Community College and the University of Toledo.

These five teams competed against varsity NCAA Division 3 and National Junior College Athletic Association programs, and accounted for 15 semifinalists, a finalist in eight of the 10 weight classes, nine of the 20 finalist spots and four champions.

These same five teams are slated to compete at the Mott Bear Open Nov. 20 in Flint.
