DEARBORN — Henry Ford College will welcome its new and returning students with Welcome Back Days from Sept. 19 to 22 in the Student and Culinary Arts Center on the main campus, 5101 Evergreen.
At Welcome Back Days, students can learn about the programs and services available at HFC and receive encouragement to get involved in student life. They will have opportunities to join student clubs, participate in various activities, speak with student support services representatives, as well as learn about the programs and admissions requirements they will need to continue their education after graduating from HFC.
Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 19, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 and 21, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22. The event is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.
Festivities for Sept. 19 include Constitution Day, where students learn more about the “Law of the Land,” as well as help eradicate human trafficking by participating in the activity, Five Minutes to Freedom.
Sept. 20 and 21 will spotlight student clubs looking to recruit new members and promote upcoming events. Sept. 20 also will feature a photo booth and airbrush tattoos. Sept. 21 also will feature Bopping Heads, a dance and lip-sync activity.
Sept. 22 will feature Student Support Services, which will include counseling representatives, information on transferring to four-year colleges or universities, tips on note-taking and study skills, as well as other topics assisting with the success of students.
Also from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22, the Veterans Resource Fair will be held in the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center. This event is free and open to the public. Veterans, active-duty military personnel and their dependents – whether they attend HFC or not – are encouraged to attend.
Throughout the entire week during Welcome Back Days, students will also have the opportunity to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election.
Additionally, Volunteer Day at Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 24. Volunteers will pack non-perishable food for the needy. Students who wish to volunteer must register at the Office of Student Activities by Sept. 21.
Earlier in 2016, the Hawks’ Nest, HFC’s on-campus food pantry, opened. The Hawks’ Nest (in Building L) offers non-perishable food items to students in need. The Hawks’ Nest will be open throughout the entire week during Welcome Back Days. Students are welcome to visit.
