DEARBORN – Dearborn’s 2016 Homecoming festival is offering participants the chance to have a “Healthy Start to a Fun Day” with a 5-kilometer race and 1-mile fun run Aug. 7
The races begin at the festival grounds at Ford Field Park.
The 5K will leave from the Brady Street entrance at 8 a.m. and loop along the Rouge River Gateway trail near the University of Michigan-Dearborn before returning to the park. Prizes will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers and by gender in 12 age groups.
The one-mile Family Fun Run stays within Ford Field Park and is a chance for runners of all ages and abilities to participate in the event. The Fun Run starts at 7:45 a.m.
Registration for the 5K is $28 through June 30, with the first 50 to register getting a special early bird rate of $22. After July 31, the rate rises to $32.
Late registration is $35 through race day. For the Fun Run, registration is $15 until July 31 and then $20 through race day.
Go to http://triviumracing.com/event/dearborn-homecoming-5k/ to register and for more details.
Registration includes a custom inaugural Homecoming 5K T-shirt (must register by Aug. 1 to be guaranteed a shirt), a custom Homecoming bib number, live results, post-race food and drinks, and an inaugural Homecoming 5K finishers glass (5K only).
Race proceeds benefit the Dearborn Community Fund, which organizes Homecoming with the city of Dearborn. Homecoming runs from Aug. 5 to 7 at Ford Field Park on Monroe Street north of Michigan Avenue. Planners hope to make the run a permanent part of Homecoming.
The run is one of several Homecoming events in 2016 to incorporate Healthy Dearborn initiatives. Healthy Dearborn is a broad-based community project to promote wellness, including staying active and having fun.
