HFC Chef’s Dinner April 21 ‘A Time of Transformation’

DEARBORN — The Henry Ford College Culinary Arts Department will hold its annual Chef’s Dinner “Bachelor’s Degree: A Time of Transformation” at 6 p.m. April 21 at Fifty-One O One.

The student-run restaurant is in the Student & Culinary Arts Center on the main campus, 5101 Evergreen.

At the dinner, HFC Culinary Arts Lead Instructor/ACF Program Coordinator Eric Gackenbach will celebrate the recent launch of the recently introduced Bachelor of Science in Culinary Arts, the first four-year degree offered by HFC.
This degree program represents an enhancement to the college’s award-winning Culinary Arts program and responds directly to industry needs.

“It is imperative that today’s hospitality professionals have business management expertise, strong culinary skills and a global perspective,” said Gackenbach. “Students study and practice hospitality and culinary arts at HFC. That is not necessarily the case at other schools.”

Some of the artfully presented ingredients and flavors during the eight-course dinner include: seared striploin, twice-baked potato, tempura-fried soft shell crab, fontina-stuffed agnolotti, cured beef, candied hazelnuts, gazpacho, poached shrimp and tomato confit.

There will be an assortment of house-made breads and hors d’oeuvres, including vegetarian and traditional canapés. Passion fruit tart, goat cheese crème and berry ice cream will be available for dessert.

Coffee and tea service is included. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Wine is available for purchase by the glass ($4) or by the bottle ($16.25 to $22.50). Valid photo identification is required to purchase alcohol.

The cost to attend this dinner is $45 per person, $30 of which is a tax deductible donation to the HFC Hospitality Facilities Fund.

To purchase a seat at this scholarship dinner, send checks or take cash to the HFC Foundation Office, on the third floor of the Welcome Center, 5101 Evergreen Road, Dearborn, MI, 48128-1495. Note in the memo section that payment is for the “Hospitality Courses Dinner.”

Tickets will not be issued for this event. There will be a list of attendees at the door the night of the event. Letters of recognition will be sent as documentation of donations.
