DEARBORN — New technology updates will be coming to the animals and employees of the Dearborn Animal Shelter after it was awarded $25,000.

The shelter entered the Michigan Office Solutions, Make My Profit Run Better contest in March where it earned 24,000 votes to win the top prize.

“I received an email about the contest and thought about entering because it was a great match for us,” said Elaine Greene, executive director of Friends For the Dearborn Shelter, which operates the shelter.

In total, 33 non-profits entered the contest with a documentation of the non-profit and a proposal of need to be considered.

The shelter made it through two rounds of voting on the company’s website and earning a spot among the top three organizations for the top prize.

The Michigan Office Solutions representatives made a surprise appearance at the shelter April 1 to give employees the good news that they had won.

“We were completely surprised and extremely excited when we found out,” Greene said. “None of us were expecting the prize so we started yelling when they gave us the check.”

Included in the $25,000 prize will be new technology upgrades and equipment needed by the shelter.

“A Michigan Office Solutions representative will be coming next week to discuss products with us and our needs,” Greene said. “A plan will be made and items will be brought in for us to use.”

Greene also said products given to the shelter will be transferred to the new location they are currently working toward if needed.
