State of the City address available on CDTV

DEARBORN –  Nasty weather caused the cancellation of the State of the City ceremony for the public on Feb. 24, but viewers can watch a recorded presentation of the address on CDTV.

Mayor John O’Reilly Jr. changed the format of the address this year to include seven community leaders in a discussion reviewing the accomplishments of 2015 and initiatives for 2016 and beyond.

A winter storm on the day of the public ceremony made driving hazardous for the potential audience, so an alternate presentation was needed.

Given the busy schedules of the seven panelists, it was unlikely that a timely date could be found to reschedule the event for the public.

As an alternative, the seven panelists and the mayor recorded their presentation.

The theme of the address is collaboration.

“Partners, volunteers, commissioners, and business leaders all work together to move our city forward, and I want to show how effective that engagement is,” O’Reilly said.

Joining O’Reilly in the presentation are: Ghassan Ahmed, a Youth commissioner and one of the organizers of The Real Dearborn March; Jackie Lovejoy, president of the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and member of the West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority; Judith McNeeley, member of the East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority, and vice president of Community and Corporate Engagement for Beaumont Health; Dave Norwood, sustainability coordinator for the city; Mary Petlichkoff, chairwoman of the Dearborn Federation of Neighborhood Associations, member of the City Beautiful Commission and Dearborn Public Schools trustee; Nancy Siwik, chairwoman of the City Plan Commission; and Jeff Stassen, chairman of the Recreation and Parks Commission.

“I appreciate these civic leaders and volunteer commissioners sharing their perspective on the state of our community, and their insight into how we can build on our traditions to secure a bright future,” O’Reilly said.

The presentation will be shown on CDTV, the city’s government access channel, at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 8 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sundays.
