MELVINDALE — Unruly children allegedly got the best of a Melvindale-North Allen Park bus driver who was charged with child abuse and assault and battery for injuring an 11-year-old bystander Jan. 19.

Patrick Brennan, 63, was arranged Jan. 21 in connection with the incident that left a mark on the youngster. He reportedly threw ice at the misbehaving Allendale Elementary students and hit the 11-year-old girl in the head.

Brennan, of Lincoln Park, was arraigned in 24th District Court before Judge John Courtright on fourth-degree misdemeanor child abuse and assault and battery. Courtright set Brennan’s bond at $5,000, 10 percent, and set his preliminary hearing for Feb. 1.

According to police, Brennan threw a chunk of ice at misbehaving students inside the bus. When doing so, he allegedly hit an 11-year-old girl, causing a cut above her eye. Police said she wasn’t one of the disobedient students.

She was treated at her house.

Brennan remained jailed as of press time.
