DEARBORN — City Clerk Kathleen Buda announced she will be retire Feb. 17 from her position of 17 years.
Buda’s announcement comes a month after Michigan State Police raided the clerk’s office as part of an embezzlement investigation.
Officers left the Dearborn Administrative Center with multiple boxes filled with documents on Dec. 16.
She did not say whether the raid and the retirement were related.
Current Deputy Clerk Lola Isiminger will take over as city clerk once Buda retires, in accordance with the city charter.
Buda, 64, has worked for the city of Dearborn for 20 years. She was first elected city clerk in 1997 and was last re-elected in 2013. Her current four-year-term would have ended on Jan. 1, 2018.
Buda was raised in Dearborn where her family had a catering business.
