ALLEN PARK – While former Emergency Manager Joyce Parker and former City Administrator Karen Folks have left the building, their litigation bill hasn’t.
Council members discovered an unpaid litigation bill from the pair during Tuesday’s council meeting. Councilman Angelo DeGiulio questioned a $720 bill from Birmingham law firm Kienbaum Opperwall Hardy & Pelton for a meeting with Parker and Folks.
“They felt they were being harassed and they called in this law firm to do an investigation,” said City Administrator Mark Kibby.
Yet, the bill wasn’t paid. Folks and Parker approved the bills presented for payment, but he bill to the law firm reportedly wasn’t presented because the pair disagreed agree with the firm’s findings.
“Apparently, from my understanding, the emergency manager and administrator did not like the answer they received and basically put the bill in hiatus,” Kibby said.
Kibby said the bill came back up and is being processed for payment.
“So they just refused to pay it?” DeGiulio asked.
“Yes, they just didn’t like the answer,” Kibby said.
