ALLEN PARK — A not guilty plea was entered for a 31-year-old Dearborn man charged with the Nov. 6 armed bank robbery of Zeal Credit Union after he stood mute in Wayne County Circuit Court Nov. 23.
Judge Shannon Walker entered not guilty plea for Christopher Mathew Szuch. He waived his Nov. 17 preliminary hearing in 24th District Court and was bound over to circuit court. The following day Szuch’s bond was reduced from $200,000 to $50,000 with the condition of a GPS tether. Szuch remains jailed.
Szuch allegedly entered the credit union, 7240 Park Ave. about 10 a.m. Nov. 6, approached a teller and handed her a note saying, “I have a gun, give me the cash.”
The teller handed him nearly $5,750 and he fled on foot. A search of the area, including the aid of a K-9, was unsuccessful.
Police received numerous tips via social media, Detective Jeffery Miller said. Investigators were able to identify Szuch as a suspect and placed a “be on the lookout” for Szuch. By 3 p.m. an officer detained him on a traffic stop and he was arrested.
His preliminary examination of the evidence against him in circuit court is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 2 before Walker.
