DEARBORN — The Lebanese American Heritage Club, 4337 Maple Street, received a $50,000 grant from Walmart to help fund its healthy living program.
The grant was awarded by Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program to the non-profit organization. The club’s mission is to promote the educational, cultural, health and social affairs of the community as well as provide social services, youth and education and community health awareness.
“The grant provided by Walmart is an important contribution to the Lebanese American Heritage Club,” Executive Director Wassim Mahfouz said. “It has a direct and immediate impact on our mission to serve Dearborn and the surrounding area.”
The funding will help provide nutrition and physical fitness education to students in five local elementary schools.
“Our healthy living program provides nutrition and physical fitness education in five elementary schools in Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Detroit, serving 800 children and their parents on a monthly basis,” Mahfouz said.
The contribution to Lebanese American Heritage Club was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Michigan State Giving Program.
“Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are very pleased to be supporting the Lebanese American Heritage Club and are committed to helping those in need in the communities where we serve,” Walmart Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations Erik Hingst said.
Through this program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better.
The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the United States.
“Through this grant, we are hopeful children and parents in the Dearborn area will benefit from increased education on nutrition and physical fitness to enhance and improve their lives.”
