TAYLOR – Two brothers who stood accused of two felony charges after beating a man in a Taylor gas station were found guilty of misdemeanor aggravated assault Tuesday after a bench trial before Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Shannon Walker.
Taylor brothers Anthony Clark, 23, and DeAngelo Clark, 22, were found not guilty of assault with intent to commit murder and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm, and Walker reduced the assault charge to a misdemeanor.
Police and prosecutors said the Clark brothers severely injured a 29-year-old Lincoln Park man in September 2014 in the BP gas station at Telegraph and Wick. The two had left by the time police responded but were identified and in custody later that day.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained for nearly a month while being treated for injuries.
Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said the Taylor man initially confronted the Clarks and accused them of selling drugs in the parking lot and surrounding neighborhood. Witnesses told police that the man told the Clarks, “We don’t do that around here.”
The man reportedly threatened and made racial remarks to the Clarks, who – after having been arraigned last year – in April waived their right to a jury trial.
The Clark brothers are scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 1.
