Masco to move HQ to Livonia

TAYLOR – A move that business owners said has been in the works for years was confirmed last week. Due to downsizing the corporate headquarters of Masco Corp., 21001 Van Born Road, will relocate to Livonia by the end of 2016.

City officials said Masco’s executive team had planned the move for more than two years after its workforce had declined from 60,000 to less than 30,000 during the recession. Staff at the Van Born offices had been reduced from 500 to about 200, and economics demanded smaller quarters.

“We recognize the business environment and pressures involving these types of corporate decisions,” Mayor Rick Sollars said in a statement. “We wish we could have done something to keep the headquarters in Taylor, but that wasn’t possible. We wish them the best of luck and appreciate everything they have done in this community.”

The company confirmed on Thursday that it will vacate its headquarters by the end of 2016, but will maintain its research and development center on Trolley Industrial Drive.

Masco CEO and President Keith Allman said the corporate offices were, “too large and segmented for our leaner workforce. The move will provide a more functional space and is an important step forward for us.”

The building has more than 400,000 square feet and was built in 1966.
