TRENTON – A fitness facility here will host a fundraiser car wash to aid a Flat Rock family whose father and husband are battling cancer.

The car wash — which will also feature family activities — will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 at 3d Fit Studio, 3214 W. Jefferson. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Skira family.

Brandon Skira is battling an aggressive stomach cancer that was diagnosed in July following a routine lab for his insurance’s health risk assessment.

Skira and his wife, Allie, are parents of son Drew, 2, and daughter Brynn, six months. Brandon Skira grew up in Southgate, and Allie Skira was raised in Trenton. Both are registered nurses at Oakwood Southshore and Henry Ford Wyandotte hospitals. Allie Skira recently returned to work while her husband is on medical leave until early next year.

Competition members at 3d Fit Bikini, Fitness and Figure will wash cars to raise money for the family and also will be seeking community support for their upcoming show season. Other 3D Fit gym members also will be helping for the cause.

“Our competition ladies have been working day in and day out at the gym to prepare themselves, body and mind, for the upcoming competition season,” said Donna Burick, 3d Fit Studio owner and trainer. “I am very proud that they are taking time out of their busy schedules to help give back to a family in our community.”

In addition to the car wash, guests can participate in Biceps for Bucks, Push-Ups for Pledges, and other activities.

“Although we are going through a very difficult time, the community has really stepped in and made this process a little easier to manage,” Allie Skira said. “With all the love and support we’ve received, we are able to maintain a positive attitude which is crucial in the fight against this awful disease.”

Brandon Skira already has begun chemotherapy treatment and is scheduled to undergo surgery next month at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor and will then continue chemotherapy.

A Skira Strong Facebook group is available to download pledge sheets and make it easy for individual donations for each bicep curl or push-up. The pledge sheets also will be available on 3D Fit Studio’s Facebook Page.
