Autism awareness basketball game

Allen Park High School freshman guard Isabelle Slate takes the first of two foul shots during the junior varsity girls basketball game against New Boston Huron High School Feb. 12. The game was a benefit for autism awareness and the proceeds went toward classroom materials and support for APHS students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The school has a link program which pairs ASD students with an upperclassman while they attend regular classes at the high school. The school created the program to help ASD students transition into high school classes. The ASD students sometimes need specific learning materials that are more visually stimulating — like a tablet computer — to interact and learn with.
