Allen Park High School students pack lunches that were passed out to homeless veterans at the Detroit Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry in Taylor Friday. The students made lunches for 120 homeless veterans to put in Valentine-decorated paper bags for the veterans. Some students also made Valentine cards for the veterans as well. The volunteer effort was a continuation of a Veteran’s Day celebration Nov. 11, Wycoff said, because the students wanted to do more for veterans after learning veterans make up the largest demographic of homeles individuals. She said the holidays, following the Veteran’s Day event, made it difficult to schedule the community service effort and they decided to do something for Valentine’s Day. The Allen Park American Legion Auxiliary donated the cost of lunches and the Allen Park Sons of the American Legion donated “warm, winter” socks for the veterans.
