SOUTHGATE — Southgate Community Schools Board Trustee Patricia Graziani announced her resignation due to personal reasons at the Jan. 28 board meeting effective that night.

By law, the board has 30 days from the date of the resignation to appoint a replacement to the panel. After the 30 days is up the next step would be that Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency — the district’s intermediate support agency — would name a new trustee.

“That rarely happens,” Supt. William Grusecki said.

At least one potential panelist has expressed interest in completing the four-year term of Graziani, a Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan analyst first elected in 2008, and whose term expires in 2016.

An appointment is expected at the Feb. 25 meeting of the board. At the board’s Jan. 28 meeting, officer appointments were made for Paul Knott as president, Rebecca Reed-Hall as vice president, Darlene Pomponio as secretary and Kirk Hayhurst as treasurer.

Notices seeking candidates for the position were to be posted on the district’s website. Grusecki said that anyone interested in serving on the board should submit a letter of interest to Southgate Community Schools, 14400 Dix-Toledo, Southgate, MI, 48195 or call 734-246-4600.
