WYANDOTTE — Now that Christmas is over and all the gifts have been unwrapped, the city offers its residents an opportunity to do something with their unwanted real trees.

Residents will be able to set them out for collection by the city. The council approved the schedule for the tree collections Dec. 16. The city will be working with Waste Management to collect the unwanted trees starting Jan. 6.

Any trees set out north of Vinewood Street will be collected on Tuesdays, while those set out south of Vinewood will be collected on Thursdays until the end of January. The Engineering and Building Department said any ornaments, decorations, stands, and plastic bags must be removed before the tree is picked up.

The trees collected will be composted. City Engineer Mark Kowalewski said the tree pickup allows the city to protect and manage natural resources while promoting proper recycling and yard waste disposal.
