DEARBORN — The Dearborn Public Schools Education Foundation appointed Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce President Jackie Lovejoy and certified public accountant Salvador Zavala to its board of directors.

The two replace former Chamber President Jennifer Giering and CPA Dale Bender, who left the board in July.

Lovejoy became chamber president in June. For the previous 15 years, she worked at Davenport University wearing many hats, including director of job development, director of the Romeo and Oxford campuses, admissions training manager and regional employment and internship manager. The theme which ties her last 15 years of work experience to her role on the DPSEF board is the value of corporate involvement in education, foundation Executive Director Eddie Fakhoury said.

As a CPA, Zavala has worked with Deloitte Tax, LLP and Plante Moran, PLLC. He is now a partner at Heller & Wetzler, PC which specializes in small business accounting, consulting, and income tax planning for businesses and individuals. He will replace Bender as the board’s treasurer.

“I remain pleased with the level of talent that the foundation’s board continues to attract,” Fakhoury said. “We have a wealth of experience and talent on our board that continue to propel us forward.”

The DPSEF is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization created in 1992 by a group of citizens to serve the Dearborn Public Schools. The foundation has raised and returned more than $1.5 million to the schools through teacher grant requests.
