Ex-Dearborn, Downriver preps make Wayne State grid roster

Former high school varsity players from Dearborn and Downriver are part of the Wayne State University 2013 football team.

Leading the list is Andrew Matt, a 6-2, 241-pound senior defensive end. He is from Wyandotte Roosevelt and is being counted on to help anchor a strong defense when the Warriors take the field this season. Matt already has earned three letters while at WSU and is expected to start at his position.

The Warriors will be playing their first collegiate night game at Adams Field on Sept. 14 when they host Ashland College, a member team of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

A quartet of roster players from Dearborn are making bids to earn playing time. Rabeah Beydoun, is one of those players. He is sophomore running back from Fordson.

Others who hail from Dearborn include Nores Fradi, a junior linebacker. Raafat El Hage is a sophomore lineman from Edsel Ford. Yaser Hamdan, who preppred at Dearborn Heights Star International High School is at defensive end and at the bottom of the WSU depth chart.

There are three big games on the schedule for WSU this fall. The Warriors will play at Hillsdale on Oct. 12, and host a pair of games with Saginaw Valley on Oct. 19 and Grand Valley on Nov. 9.

It is this group of local players who hope to see action during the WSU 11-game grid schedule..
